How do I prepare my home for sale?

You are ready to sell your home and as you look around your abode, you note that it looks a little dated and lived in because well, you have been living there! Then you check out Zillow, Redfin, Realtor.com and Trulia to see what’s for sale in your area only to note that these homes look like they have been professionally designed on an HGTV show.

How can you update your home to ready it to sell?

This is where my real estate license becomes the perfect pairing for my interior design certification. In my experience, the biggest bang for your buck is: paint. Yep, PAINT! Paint the inside, paint the outside.

The latest trend for paint colors on the outside of your home is white with black trim. Painting your home’s exterior will get potential buyers in your front door to check out your home for sale. The next time you are driving through your neighborhood, you will now notice every home that has this paint combo and you will think: ah-ha! Those owners are about to sell their home.

How amazing is the transformation that exterior paint made on my client’s home?

Before and After

Is it expensive? Nope. My client’s home is 1,900 square feet and it cost $5,000 to paint the exterior.

When painting the interior of your home, keep it neutral. Paint colors that are “greige” or “gray-beige” add a little color to your walls. My go-to greige paint colors are Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray and Repose Gray.
